Consumer Unit (fuse box) replacement

The consumer unit is the heart of the electrical system which is taking care of your family’s and your electrical wiring’s safety.

Although there is no legal requirement that calls for an existing electrical installation to be upgraded to current standards, I know that old consumer units are simply not safe.

You may decide that your old fuse box needs to be replaced when you are having other electrical work carried out and need to comply with the regulations. For example, having an extension built, or your old fuse board is overloaded and starting to cause problems (such as overheating and deterioration).

So if you have decided to replace your consumer unit please make sure that this important job is completed by a competent, qualified and registered electrician (NICEIC for instance). Their work will be guaranteed, certified and reported to the Local Building Control authority so you can rest assured that all work was done safely, and you can have peace of mind that your family will be safe from accidents.

Cost? Well… this depends on the size of your house, earth bonding, materials used, and possible faults discovered along the way. I would estimate the cost to be between £340 and £560 . Obviously you can hire “Bob the Builder” who will do it much cheaper, but if anything goes wrong he will not answer your phone calls.

The choice is yours – I hope you will make the right one.

So if you are thinking of getting your fuse box changed please do not hesitate to give me a call. I will be more than happy to come round to see you, and give you a free no obligation quote for your project.
